On February 12th of this year regarding the move of the census from the commerce dept to the executive branch I made the prediction in my piece "The truth about the census"

Now that shoe is about to drop. According to an article by Julia Preston in today's New York Times, "President Obama plans to begin addressing America's immigration system this year, including looking for a path for illegal immigrants to become legal."
While many are cautioning the president to wait until later to deal with this issue siting current high unemployment as the reason, he intends to push for it none the less. The reason no doubt is to forestall a resurgence by the Republicans in congress in 2010 by ensuring a new crop of "indentured voters" turn out in mass to maintain or increase his power base. His timing may be fortunate for the opposition as conservatives in both parties may be able to band together to stem the tide, but without a strong public outcry that is not likely to happen. It is critical that those opposed to amnesty and the attempt by the administration to gerrymander congress for the Democrats that voters make their opinions known to their representatives, particularly those up for re-election. If not, we should expect to see liberal majorities in both houses and at the executive for a decade or longer.
