Mother Earth can take care of herself

As I mentioned in my previous post "Too many people", those on the left have been predicting dire consequences for decades due to "overpopulation" and have been chastising us to limit reproductivity.  Well mother earth has a way of dealing with over population herself as she did in 1918 with the Spanish flu pandemic taking 40,000,000 of the populace out of circulation.  Now it appears we may very well be on the brink of yet another such pandemic and while we have tools to fight it that were not in place during the last one, over use of antibiotics may have rendered us impotent in combating the current threat.  The earth is quite capable of taking anything we throw at it as the late George Carlin stated on more than one occasion:

"The planet has been through a lot worse than us. Been through all kinds of things worse than us. Been through earthquakes, volcanoes, plate tectonics, continental drift, solar flares, sun spots, magnetic storms, the magnetic reversal of the poles…hundreds of thousands of years of bombardment by comets and asteroids and meteors, worldwide floods, tidal waves, worldwide fires, erosion, cosmic rays, recurring ice ages…And we think some plastic bags, and some aluminum cans are going to make a difference? The planet…the planet…the planet isn’t going anywhere. WE ARE!"

Let's make a deal

After leading his boss to defeat, McCain Campaign chairman Steve Schmidt is now encouraging the Republican party to go even further in abandoning it's principles in order to increase support.  Schmidt urged fellow Republicans on Friday to "warm up to gay rights and warned that the GOP risks becoming the "religious party" with its opposition to same-sex marriage."  He went on to say "that Republicans need to reach out, not only to gay voters, but young voters and Hispanics."  Let's cut to the chase,  what Mr. Schimdt wants Republicans (read that conservatives) to do is: Support Gay marriage, support amnesty for illegals and cut deals with younger voters by giving them free tuition.  Were the party to take his advice, what at that point would separate Republicans from Democrats?  While we're at it why don't we disavow support for tax cuts, a strong defense, the family, and law enforcement?  Better yet, why not dissolve the party altogether and become Democrats?

What Schmidt and others of his ilk are proposing is to follow rather than lead, the same way Republican members of the House and Senate chose to follow the traditions of tax and spend rather than what voters sent them there to do.  Instead of conservatives abandoning their principles to the will of the mob, I would suggest Mr. Schmidt reach out to the other side completely and join the party that he is obviously more comfortable with.  The last thing the party needs is another R.I.N.O who simply doesn't understand that the reason for it's losses in the last four years was the abandonment of it's core values.

Obama Orwellian

Imagine my surprise when I awoke yesterday to discover that according to Janet Napolitano, secretary of homeland security, I am considered a potential threat to the government purely on the basis that I am opposed to giving illegal immigrants amnesty and I am pro-life.  I would imagine that many of you reading this fall into the same category.  Worse, those who are returning to civilian life after having served this nation with honor are considered to be the most potentially dangerous to the new standard of "national security" being imposed on free thinking Americans by members of the radical left now in charge of the government.  Can anyone imagine the howling that would have spread through the mainstream media had the Bush administration proposed similar measures for those who opposed the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan?  While the new standards on so called potential domestic terrorists should be taken seriously, no one, no one, should be intimidated into suppressing their strongly held beliefs.  No one on either side should resort to violence of any kind.  Having said that, it would appear that it is the left not the right that Ms. Napolitano should be concerning herself with based on former congressman Tom Tancredo's reception at the University of North Carolina last night.  Mr. Tancredo was invited there to speak in support of his view against illegal immigration.  He had barely started his speech when he was interrupted by violent protesters who broke a window in the auditorium while chanting "no one is illegal".  This is what those of us in opposition to the Obama administration's policies are facing, being arrested by a paranoid left wing administration, or being physically silenced by those who fear more than anything, the right of free speech.  While I would never incite to violence I sure as hell am not going to take it from the other side without responding in kind and I will never submit to illegal habeas corpus simply for having an opinion that does not fall in line with the policies of this or any administration.  That is not what my friends and family sacrificed their lives for when they fought in defense of this nation.

The second shoe

On February 12th of this year regarding the move of the census from the commerce dept to the executive branch I made the prediction in my piece "The truth about the census" http://torchlight.blogtownhall.com/2009/02/12/the_truth_about_the_census.thtml that "The next step no doubt and one that Democratic members of congress have been chomping at the bit for is to grant these illegals amnesty, giving them the right to vote."  Now that shoe is about to drop.  According to an article by Julia Preston in today's New York Times, "President  Obama plans to begin addressing America's immigration system this year, including looking for a path for illegal immigrants to become legal."

While many are cautioning the president to wait until later to deal with this issue siting current high unemployment as the reason, he intends to push for it none the less.  The reason no doubt is to forestall a resurgence by the Republicans in congress in 2010 by ensuring a new crop of  "indentured voters" turn out in mass to maintain or increase his power base.  His timing may be fortunate for the opposition as conservatives in both parties may be able to band together to stem the tide, but without a strong public outcry that is not likely to happen.  It is critical that those opposed to amnesty and the attempt by the administration to gerrymander congress for the Democrats that voters make their opinions known to their representatives, particularly those up for re-election.  If not, we should expect to see liberal majorities in both houses and at the executive for a decade or longer.

Don't believe the labels

For years conservatives have been told that columnists like Thomas Friedman and David Brooks are conservatives by those in the mainstream press.  Often when quoting them they will use statements such as "Conservative Thomas Friedman or Conservative David Brooks." My question is, conservative compared to who?  In the last election those in the MSM stated repeatedly that if only those in the Republican party would follow the model of Brooks and Friedman we would have won the election.  It appears that the MSM has been using the strategy that if you repeat a lie often enough it becomes the truth.  Brooks and Friedman are no more conservative in their philosophy than Bill Clinton and never have been. They have consistently been derisive towards the Regan model declaring it passe and have stated time and time again that if Republicans (read that conservatives) wish to regain control of the government they need to moderate their views.  The Regan model is no more passe than the ten commandments and it is just as timeless.

Regan believed that the money you earned was yours and that you knew far better how to spend it than the bureaucrats in Washington.  He saw government intrusion into the private sector not as a speed bump but a road block and revived an economy that had been struggling for years under the leadership of "moderate" Republicans and liberal Democrats by deregulating industry.  Now Friedman and his ilk are championing the cause of tying both hands behind industry's back by supporting the "cap and trade" system proposed by Democrats in congress and supported by the Obama administration.  Mr. Friedman showed his true colors when he wrote the following: "Since the opponents of cap-and-trade are going to pillory it as a tax anyway, why not go for the real thing — a simple, transparent, economy-wide carbon tax?"  What is the point of such a tax?  On the surface it's proponents will tell you that it is to stem the tide of "Global Warming", but the truth is that it is being proposed to put a strangle hold on the free market.  To put those who "know best" in charge of the daily lives of every American by controlling down to the smallest detail how we live their lives.  That is the evil truth behind the "Green Movement" which is nothing more than a thinly disguised "Red Movement."  Communists lost the cold war and the battle of ideas in the eighties and are using the environment as nothing more than a means to the same old end, total government control.  Contrary to what Friedman, Brooks and others would have you believe it was only when Republicans abandoned the Regan model that they lost control of government, in more ways than one.  So when anyone in the MSM touts those with a liberal agenda as conservative beware, in politics there is no law that demands truth in labelling.

Too many People?

According to science and technology advisor Nina Federoff humans have exceeded the earth's "limits of sustainability."  This is the second claim in a week by those in authority.  Only last week a member of the Brown govt in the UK stated that they needed to prune their population down to 30,000,000.  Claims such as this have made headlines for decades and yet the huge collapse of resources they predict have failed to come to pass.  I have a recommendation to those who feel there are too many people on the planet, practice what you preach and eliminate yourselves as part of the population immediately.  This will certainly prove you have the courage of your convictions.  If you feel that strongly about it take your loved ones with you.  At the very least see that they are sterilized before you go.  That will at least eliminate the part of the population that thinks it knows what's best for everyone else.
