Pointing the finger at himself

In the last few days President Barack Obama has encouraged American's outrage over the AIG bonuses.  He's been pointing fingers at the previous administration while members of his administration and congress have denied responsibility.  How could such a thing have happened?  Well perhaps Mr. Obama was looking in the mirror when he was ranting and raving because it was his administration that was responsible. Chairman of the Senate Banking committee Christopher Dodd announced today that he was asked by the administration to insert a provision in last months so called stimulus bill which would modify restrictions on executive pay for companies receiving bailout money.  The net effect was to authorize the bonuses.  The ineptitude of this new administration is off the charts.  It would be funny were it not for that fact that these are the people who are supposedly in charge of the government.  How is anyone to have faith in a President who not only has no clue what he's doing but also has no clue about what he and his appointees have done?  The fault Mr. Obama lies not in the stars but in yourself.

Hi, I'm Nancy, fly me anywhere, NOW!

Speaker of the house Nancy Pelosi is upset.  She's upset because the dept of defense has failed to have military aircraft ready and waiting for the speaker, her colleagues and her family to fly them at a moments notice anywhere they want to go.  This from the same woman who lead the criticism of auto makers for flying private jets to D.C. this past December.  This from the congressional leader whose party is pushing energy efficiency, global warming, and extreme cap and trade measures which will hurt consumers and the economy as they seek to reduce carbon emissions.  Of course such policies were meant to apply to everyone but those enacting the laws.  Here is a choice quote from her staff. "It is my understanding there are NO G5s available for the House during the Memorial Day recess. This is totally unacceptable ... The Speaker will want to know where the planes are," Could they be, protecting the nation?  Oh, that's right, now that the Democrats are in charge, defending the country has a much lower priority.  Obama had best not cut the defense budget or the lack of military planes available to the Queen, I mean the speaker is likely to increase.  Where is Al Gore on this one?

And so it begins

"Team Obama sounds hollow, chanting that “the status quo is not acceptable,” even while conceding that the president is accepting the status quo by signing a budget festooned with pork. Obama spinners insist it was “a leftover budget.  This is the first pork-filled budget from a new president who promised to go through the budget “line by line” and cut pork. Given how angry Americans are, watching their future go up in smoke, the bloated bill counts as this year’s business."  Can anyone reading guess who wrote the previous paragraph?   Sean Hannity?  Rush Limbaugh?  Glenn Beck?  No, believe it or not Ripley, those harsh words of criticism are hot off the fingers of no less than Maureen Dowd, former chief Bush basher for the NY Times.  Many wondered how long it would take for the avalanche to begin, we now have the answer, less than two months.  What is amazing is that Bill Clinton got away with far more than the supposed Messiah before he was called on the carpet by those who supported him.  With moderate Republicans calling him on the carpet and moderates in his own party and liberals in the media now joining in, this may prove to be the shortest Presidential honeymoon in history.  Conservatives living in districts controlled by democrats, particularly districts that were until recently Republican, would be wise to make use of their computers and telephones to make their voices heard.  Let them know that if they support this "pork filled budget" to use Ms. Dowd's words and the proposed tax increases, they too will be collecting unemployment in the very near future.

Brooks "I'm so sorry I made a mistake"

So called conservative who now admits to being a moderate, David Brooks, is acknowledging that where Barack Obama is concerned he made a mistake, "Those of us who consider ourselves moderates — moderate-conservative, in my case — are forced to confront the reality that Barack Obama is not who we thought he was. His words are responsible; his character is inspiring. But his actions betray a transformational liberalism that should put every centrist on notice."  Well no s...t Sherlock!  Anyone with an ounce of brains, (guess that leaves most moderates out) knew what Obama was just from looking at his record.  You and Peggy (my beautiful election) Noonan championed this guy while telling real conservatives like Sara Palin to go pound sand.  You are also the same people who pushed for the nomination of John McCain and also the same people who told us that the era of Reagan is over. No Mr. Brooks it's your era that's over. I would sincerely hope that those foolish enough to take your advice in the last go round will not so politely now tell you to go pound sand as you seek to advise them in the 2010 and 2012 elections.
