Three years ago Democrats rode into power by labeling Republicans in congress as culturally corrupt. In the face of failing banks, massive home foreclosures, skyrocketing unemployment and the disintegration of Wall Street which in the process has destroyed the future of millions of Americans looking to retire, the "squeaky clean" Democrats have followed in Nero's footsteps preferring to fiddle around rather than put out the fire. Yesterday they passed a massive spending bill that includes 238,000.00 for the Polynesian Voyaging Society of Honolulu, and 475,000 for the Italian American Museum in Little Italy among many other earmarks totalling 7.7 billion.
In his speech on Tuesday Obama chastised Republicans, saying while we may disagree on ten percent of the issues we need to come together on the 90 percent that we agree on. It doesn't matter if the 7.7 billion in pork barrel spending is ten percent or even .0001 percent of the overall bill, it's the direction that Democrats are taking the nation that's the problem. Since assuming office the Obama administration has closed all overseas CIA interrogation services, signed an order to close Guantanamo, and is now looking to make cuts in military spending all in the name of fiscal prudence.
What is quite apparent is that President Obama and his cronies in congress are more interested in lining their own pockets and those of the narrow interests to which they are beholden, rather than rebuilding and protecting the nation. One thing is certain though it is of little consolation, when the next attack on American soil comes they won't be able to shirk responsibility for it this time.
